National Honor Society
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school level students. More than just an honor roll, the NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginnings in 1921.
Today, it's estimated that more than one million students participate in the activities of the NHS. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments but also challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Requirements / Service
In order to be considered for membership in the National Honor Society, students must have a 3.500 cumulative weighted GPA. Juniors must have completed 20 hours of community service; seniors who are applying must have completed 30 hours of community service. These hours must be earned while enrolled as a student at Dublin Jerome High School. Here are guidelines on what counts as community service.
If chosen and inducted into the NHS, an additional 30 hours of service are required and must be completed by April 15 of the graduating year in order to be recognized at graduation. These hours must also align with the community service guidelines in order to be accepted.
Peer collaboration, freshman CAP mentor, and office worker count as 10 hours of service per semester. If you are applying in the fall, you cannot count those hours until the semester is over.
Opportunities for hours will be emailed to members of the NHS as they become available. Students are also welcome to find their own opportunities. Please check your email regularly.
